This is my testimony of using the “From Doubting to Believing” course to share the gospel at EFCCA.
Last year I encountered the course for the first time. I had previously heard of evangelism methods such as Evangelism Explosion and the Four Spiritual Laws, but this was new to me. I prayed, “God, You have raised up a new way and a new tool for sharing the gospel in this generation, and I did not even know about it.” So I eagerly enrolled in the training.
After completing the training, I invited a man who had not yet believed in Christ to study the course with me. We agreed to complete all ten sessions. At first he had many questions, but as we worked through the lessons one by one, his doubts were gradually answered. At the end he said, “I am willing to accept Jesus Christ as my Saviour.” This greatly encouraged me. I had simply followed the order and content of the course. The result did not depend on what I could do. When we faithfully speak the gospel and work through the material, the Holy Spirit works in the heart of the listener. I was deeply grateful.
The second experience came during the 2025 Christmas holiday. A non-Christian friend who was not committed to the church told me that he had no classes and no work and was bored. He asked whether I could find something for him to do. I thought, “This is exactly the opportunity I have been waiting for,” and invited him to the course. He warned me that he might receive casual work at any time. I told him that was fine: whenever he needed to work, he should go; whenever he was free, we would meet.
After the first two sessions he said, “Pastor, I have many questions. Faith is a serious matter, but it also confuses me.” I asked how much he believed in Jesus at that point. He apologetically answered, “Only ten per cent.” I said, “No problem. Let us continue.” Sometimes we met twice a week and sometimes three times. At lesson eight, I asked again. He replied, “I now believe seventy to eighty per cent, but some questions still trouble me.” I promised to keep praying and we continued.
When we completed the ten sessions, I asked whether he was willing to believe in and receive Jesus Christ as his Saviour. He answered very seriously, “I have thought about it again and again. I am willing to receive Jesus as my Saviour.” He then used an expression I had not heard for a long time: “Now Jesus Christ has got my back.” I replied, “Yes—the God of the whole universe is watching over you.” He was delighted and said that God could give him wisdom and ability for study and work. I told him that the Spirit of the Lord gives knowledge, wisdom and strength to those who trust Him. Through this experience I saw again that salvation does not come through human ability or piety, but through the power of the Holy Spirit when we are willing to work with God.
Altogether I studied the course with four men. The course encourages men to study with men and women with women. All four were under thirty and came to me asking to begin. I could hardly turn them away, so I accepted the challenge. All four came to faith. As a pastor, I have held public evangelistic meetings in mainland China with hundreds of people, yet it is difficult for a single sermon to lead someone to believe. I have also used one-to-one evangelism and served as an Evangelism Explosion team leader, and those approaches also involve significant challenges.
At first I thought ten two-hour sessions—twenty hours in total—was a large investment of time. Through using the course, however, I came to a deep conviction: it is an effective method. It may be slow, but it bears fruit. We often seek speed, yet seed scattered too quickly can be swept away before there is a harvest. I believe the Holy Spirit truly uses this course, and I am very thankful.
Although there are ten lessons, each one addresses a particular question of faith and carefully helps resolve the doubts in the listener’s heart. Step by step, quietly and almost imperceptibly, the Holy Spirit changes a person’s thinking and life. We do not pressure or force anyone. If a person’s heart is not opened by the Holy Spirit, who can make that person believe in Jesus? No one. But as we faithfully work through the course, we see the Holy Spirit Himself accomplish the work of salvation.
I am reminded of the Lord’s words to Gideon: “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” God raised Gideon up to rescue Israel. Today God also says to us, “Mighty warriors!” Every brother and sister at EFCCA is a mighty warrior, and the Lord God is with you. Let us rise up, work with God and seek the salvation of souls. Amen.
